HABS notes recorded in 1940, as Dr. Pennebaker House. Card prepared Jan 1975. Shaker West Family Dwelling House (first) (KY-90) (Shaker Dr. Pennebaker House) (Shaker Old Stone Shop) [location] Random native limestone, three by two bays, two-and-a-half stories on partially exposed basement, gable roof, stone steps with iron railings, small gabled cellar entrance on W. side. Built 1811-1812 (date stone); rear frame section and gingerbread porch additions removed during restoration after 1963. 3 ext. photos (1940, 1963), 1 int. photo (1940). Clay Lancaster inventory: north side of West Road, 225 feet west of North Road. Begun: 1 May 1811 (STJ). Completed 7 January 1812 (CR-A, p. 20). After completion of second West Family House in 1822, used as shop, inn, Shakers' dentist's and physician's office, restored by Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc. Ella Garrison survey (c 1993) Footpring 38' x 26' Built of limestone. Two and a half stories plus cellar. Gable roof. Bays: 3 x 2. Foundation limestone. Two limestone chimneys. Single door on north and south facades. Transom 5 lights. Windows 1st 9/6; 2nd 6/6. Gabled pent to access cellar on west side. North side has double winddow. 9/6, 9/6.
